How to Pack for Any Trip

  • Step 1: Catch up on Laundry

    • This is my least favorite part, but you must have a clean slate to work with. Nothing is worse than wanting to wear something but realizing it’s dirty (or not having enough underwear).

  • Step 2: Map Out Your Trip

    • Text the friends and family you’re traveling with and research restaurants or different activities you’ll be doing throughout your stay. Make a quick list for reference so you can brainstorm outfits.

  • Step 3: Make a List of Things You Need

    • This can range from hats, lingerie, swimsuits, face wash — anything you think you will forget. I live off my phone’s ‘Notes’ app.

  • Step 4: Shop Your Own Closet First

    • Clear off an area on your bed or floor to lay things out & get inspired. You’ll often find an item from your needs list while organizing the pieces you already have.

  • Step 5: Take Pictures

    • Take pictures of each outfit before you pack. Create an album on your phone so you can look back as a reference & save time getting ready while on your trip.

  • Step 6: Accessorize Wisely

    • Bring accessories you can wear with multiple outfits. My favorite go-to’s are always hoops and dainty gold necklaces to layer.

  • Step 7: Be a Shoe Minimalist

    • Do as I say not as I do on this one. Because they take up the most room, try to pack pairs of shoes you can wear with multiple outfits, like a pair of statement white sneakers.

  • Step 8: Pack Neatly

    • Use packing cubes (shop them here) to organize your suitcase by outfit, type of clothes, clean/dirty, the options are endless. If cubes aren’t your thing, roll your clothes instead of folding them. My mom taught me this little tip — it takes up less space AND prevents wrinkling.

  • Step 9: Double Check the Weather

    • Take a peek at the forecast for last minute items you might need like a rain jacket or appropriate shoes, so you don’t have to order snow boots to your final destination (don’t ask…).

  • Step 10: Enjoy your trip!
